5-Day Northern Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi → Aberdare National Park

  • Morning: Depart Nairobi early (7:00 AM) for Aberdare National Park (approx. 3.5-hour drive).
  • Mid-Morning: Arrive at Aberdare, check in at The Ark Lodge or Treetops Lodge.
  • Afternoon: Enjoy a game drive through the misty forest. Spot elephants, buffalos, leopards, and bongo antelopes.
  • Evening: Dinner and overnight at a lodge, with wildlife viewing from the lodge's deck.

 Accommodation Options:

  • Luxury: The Ark Lodge / Aberdare Country Club
  • Mid-range: Treetops Lodge
  • Budget: Campsites within the park

Day 2: Aberdare → Samburu National Reserve

  • Morning: Depart Aberdare (7:30 AM) for Samburu National Reserve (approx. 5-hour drive).
  • Mid-Morning: Arrive at Samburu, check in at your lodge/camp, and freshen up.
  • Afternoon: First game drive in Samburu National Reserve, searching for the "Samburu Special Five" – Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk.
  • Evening: Sundowner by the Ewaso Nyiro River, followed by dinner and overnight stay.

  • Luxury: Saruni Samburu / Elephant Bedroom Camp
  • Mid-range: Samburu Sopa Lodge / Ashnil Samburu Camp
  • Budget: Umoja Campsite / Public Campsites

Day 3: Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

  • Morning: Early morning game drive, best time for spotting big cats and elephants.
  • Mid-Morning: Visit the Samburu Cultural Village for a cultural experience (optional).
  • Afternoon: Relax at your lodge/camp or take a guided nature walk.
  • Evening: Second game drive and sunset photography at Ewaso Nyiro River.

Day 4: Samburu → Nyahururu (Thomson’s Falls & Lake Ol Bolossat)

  • Morning: Depart Samburu at 8:00 AM for Nyahururu (approx. 4-hour drive).
  • Mid-Morning: Arrive at Thomson’s Falls, one of Kenya’s most scenic waterfalls.
  • Afternoon: Visit Lake Ol Bolossat, a hotspot for hippos and birdlife. Lunch at Panari Resort Nyahururu.
  • Evening: Relax at your lodge with scenic Rift Valley views.

Day 5: Nyahururu → Lake Nakuru National Park → Nairobi
